demo_articleSPHINX is a three-year collaborative project funded by the EC under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Union for fighting hepatits C in Egypt and other Mediterranean countries. The project federates the expertise of five European research centers, three Egyptian institutions, one Tunisian institute, and one European diagnostics company.

SPHINX reflects the will of researchers across Europe, Egypt and Tunisia to fight against hepatitis C by understanding the mechanisms of the disease pathogenesis ; and defining new diagnostic and theranostic strategies aimed at improving patient management and their quality of life .

SPHINX is a translational research project involving multidisciplinary teams in immunology, virology, genetics, epidemiology, and diagnosis.   The aim is to identify novel biomarkers and provide new insight into the mechanisms of spontaneous clearance of hepatitis C virus (HCV) during the early stages of acute infection.

Indeed hepatitis C is a major public health problem with high incidence in regions such as Egypt
and other Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPCs).
